In the world of card payments, most people are familiar with Visa and Mastercard. Other card issuers include American Express, Discover, JCB, and so forth. Those cards are less often processed by domestic service providers. Cardstream, a UK-based company, will process Discover Global Network Cards in the region.
It makes a lot of sense for Cardstream to announce this new functionality. The company wants to expand its presence in the United Kingdom. Considering how the Brexit is looming, beefing up the payment methods for tourists and travelers is always a smart idea. As of today, the company will accelerate the acceptance of Discover Global Network cards. That includes Discover, Diners Club International, and affiliate cards.
A Bold Move by Cardstream
Having the support of the white label payment software and service provider is a major development. Their model offers significant reach into key sectors which will boost overall merchant adoption. That includes paying for transport, ticketing, hospitality, parking, and so forth. All of the common payments one would complete with a payment card bar shopping.
Cardstream CEO Adam Sharpe adds:
“Ensuring that our partners enjoy the fastest and most direct route to their market is fundamental to everything we do at Cardstream. We are delighted to be working with Discover and look forward to helping them expand acceptance in key verticals through our partner network and scaling their presence even further through our Partner Channel’s army of salespeople.”
It is interesting to note how this functionality is only being made available in 2018. Diners Club and Discover cards have been around for many decades. Neither solution ever gained the traction of Visa or Mastercard, which has always been rather unusual. Slowly but surely that situation is coming to change, at least in the United Kingdom.
